Today's recipe is so simple and is inspired by a lovely Italian friend of mine (thanks Mirella) who is also a bit of a foodie! It is a perfect activity to do on the weekend with the kids, serve at kids parties or even for a fun adult event. It takes minutes and the options are endless! I also like the fact that is it a little bit naughty and little bit nice so as an occassional treat you can indulge your sweet-tooth without a lot of guilt too.
Make and place into jars or tins for a lovely food gift idea, who wouldn't love these!
Use this recipe as a base and then add your own little touches of inspiration like chopped nuts, marshmallows, turkish delight, naked ginger or your favorite chocolate bars - this recipe is so much fun!
These can also be used as a fun topper which you can place on your cakes and cupcakes and they also make such adorable food gifts!
White, milk, dark and chocolates with fruit and nuts all work very well in this recipe.
Split your popcorn 50/50 if you want to do two flavors and melt the chocolate in two separate bowls
You will have some popcorn left over, that is cool, snack away!
YOU WILL NEED
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
2oog of white/milk/dark chocolate
Decoration suggestions (optional)
Choc-chips/chopped nuts/mini marshmallows/chopped turkish delight/coconut flakes/sprinkles/dried fruit
1. Cook popcorn as per packet instructions. (Usually you will need about 5 tablespoons oil to 1/2 cup popcorn.)
2. Melt your chocolate in the microwave on MEDIUM heat in 40 second bursts until completely melted. Stir between each "melt"as sometimes chocolate, especially dark, can melt without actually moving until stirred.
3. In a large bowl add 7 cups of your COOKED popcorn to the melted chocolate and stir to combine.
4. Empty into a suitable air-tight container (line with baking paper first if you are worried about it sticking to the container) and place in fridge or sit on counter to set (if you can wait that long).
5. Once set, break or crumble and enjoy!
