In general I would consider myself a private person and that's mainly because my parents believed that we should not "brag" or appear to be too "proud". I have always found it hard to promote myself or my achievements fearing people would think I am arrogant. In some ways I have never really felt comfortable in my own skin and dealing with body issues and being overweight as a child made me sensitive in a lot of ways.
Though I am university educated, my interests lie in the creative realms and due to this, I did not get the support at times that I felt I needed. Many times, due to my nature I have been taken advantage of and people have hurt me without any remorse or regret. Not being able to deal with my emotions eventually resulted in some serious personal health issues. So long story short, I have not really been truly happy with my life or myself for a long time.
After some serious introspection and reading, I realized the problem wasn't an external one, but an internal one. My thoughts are sometimes torn in so many different directions, and I take things to heart so easily that sometimes that it itself causes more confusion and stress in my life.
What I needed was a clear plan and vision of what and how this year was going to be different. Now if you've read or seen The Secret or numerous other law of attraction style information then you will be very familiar with a vision board.
A vision board is a board you design based on your inner most desires, dreams and ambitions and while to some it might seem like a waste of time - a lot of successful people and entrepreneurs are in favor of using a vision because it focuses your mind AND SUBCONSCIOUS towards your desires, dreams and goals. The idea is, that once you have constructed your vision board, you spend some time each day looking at it, feeling good about it and visualizing it as your reality.
So I realized a vision board was exactly what I needed. So I went to Target and got my cork board. Step one complete!
I then began my vision board process by taking a few days, just thinking about what it was that I wanted. While some things were material, like a Grammy Award (or two), a new car and home and a decent bank account, other desires were much deeper. I realized I needed to take control of my emotions for better health, I realized I wanted to make a difference with my life while I am on this planet, I realized i wanted to be successful in my career and be recognized by my community. I realized I wanted to start my own family and that I wanted to feel more connected and closer to my family and friends. Other things I realized I desired were just fun, like wanting to travel the world and be a YouTube star!
The funny thing is this my vision board made me realize that I had desires in me that I didn't even know I had and putting them onto my board even though they have not yet physically manifested in my life, finishing the board gave me a sense of contentment and accomplishment in itself, which I guess is a good place to start.
After taking a few days realizing what I wanted for my vision board, I started to scour the internet for pictures and phrases that reflected my thoughts. Then it was a process of printing them out, cutting them out and pinning them up my board. I laid everything out first without sticking them down so I could adjust sizes and places of pictures and quotes for the best fit. Then I pinned them into place. Now I love just about anything pretty and sparkly, so I found some lovely stickers at Spotlight Stores and used them to jazz up my vision board.
I was very happy with the end result and the best thing about a vision board, is that you are free to add, subtract and change things as your vision and goals change over time, so your vision board can be a source of joy for many years to come!
